PUEBLO — A student at Park View Elementary School in Pueblo saved her dad's life when he suffered a medical emergency, and Thursday, the Pueblo Police Department gave her high praise. Sophia Baca was home with her dad when he began having trouble standing up. She called 911 for help. At first, her dad told paramedics he was fine, and they left, but he kept having problems, so Baca again called 911. Eventually, her dad had to go to the hospital.

FORT CARSON — The Purple Heart is awarded to those who have been injured in combat. It's a symbol of service and sacrifice. Thursday, family and fellow soldiers at Fort Carson were on hand as Chief Warrant Officer Jared Grindstaff received his Purple Heart. Grindstaff was deployed on a mission in Afghanistan when he was injured. Grindstaff says while the memories are hard to speak about in public, he is grateful to his wife and their family who keep him grounded and help him stay strong.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Penrose Library in Downtown Colorado Springs reopened its children's section Tuesday. This area of the library had been closed for two months as part of a renovation project. The newly renovated space is now more enclosed so families can enjoy time at the library without other patrons walking through the children's section. It also features more activities for children, such as table drawing and a toy area.
