COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOAA) — The 'If You Give A Child A Book' campaign continues this week. The campaign gives kids the chance to get books for free in order to start building their own library at home. News5 caught up with students at Rogers Elementary School in Colorado Springs Wednesday morning. Students got the chance to pick five books for themselves. Some of the top genres were fantasy and natural science.

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KOAA) — A ceremony was held Friday morning at Fort Carson to mark the departure of the 4th Infantry Division's Command Sergeant Major Alexander Kupratty. As command sergeant major, he helped lead soldiers at the Mountain Post through several important missions, including training exercises in Europe with NATO.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOAA) — The gift of a book can open up a world to a child. As part of our 'If You Give A Child A Book' Campaign, children in elementary schools around southern Colorado can get new books for free to build a home library. On Wednesday, News5 was at West Elementary School on the west side of Colorado Springs. We caught up with a group of fifth-grade students who were choosing books to read. Some of the favorites were interactive books and books with pop culture references.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOAA) — Affordable housing remains an issue in our community. It can be especially hard for low income earners like teachers. The non-profit We Fortify has secured the land and funding to create a second low income housing community for teachers in Harrison School District 2 near Giberson Elementary. The CEO and Founder, Shelley Jensen, says this housing option will not only provide financial relief, it will help keep teachers in the area as well.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOAA) — A major construction project will start later this month in Colorado Springs. It will be on 8th Street between Highway 24 and Motor City Way. The project will fix aging infrastructure. The city says more than 30,000 vehicles use 8th Street everyday. One major area of focus will be replacing the bridge over Fountain Creek.
