With the two chambers at odds over how much to fund the Department of Lottery’s paid advertising and promotions, the Senate is coming down from their original number. The Senate Appropriations Committee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government now has $3 million allotted for a line item to increase lottery ad spending. That’s a drop from their original number of $5 million. The House State Administration Budget Subcommittee provided no money for that purpose in its first offer Tuesday.

With new movement in negotiations in the agriculture silo, lawmakers have agreed to put $104.5 million toward citrus research. That would save more than $9.26 million, according to the House budget.

But so far, the Senate isn’t agreeing, with that line zeroed out in the upper chamber’s latest offer.

A trend is emerging in Florida’s proposed budgets, as the House and Senate continue to negotiate: For many funding pots allocated to the executive branch, agencies will be required to report back on how they’re using the money effectively. Add that to the list of ways lawmakers have looked to push back against the Governor’s Office this year, from rejecting a proposed immigration plan during a Special Session to House lawmakers vetoing moves by Gov.
