    A man who was accused of domestic assault by strangulation, as well as malicious punishment of a child, was found not guilty in court Tuesday. Court documents show Christopher Michael Thole, 41, was acquitted of both charges by a jury. Back on February 23, Burnsville police said they were called to a residence by a 13-year-old child who said she had barricaded herself in her room after her father, Thole, reportedly strangled her and threw her to the ground.

    On Wednesday, law enforcement leaders say they will introduce a new coordinated effort to improve conditions along University Avenue. The new effort also aims to improve the safety of riders on the METRO Green Line. According to Metro Transit, law enforcement, service providers as well as both city and county prosecutors are working together on the “first-of-its-kind” collaboration, which they are calling the Safe and Strong University Avenue.

    A teen will serve more than six years in prison for his role in a 2023 shooting that killed two cousins in Brooklyn Park. Courtney Lesean Parker, 18, will serve 80 months in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony. Other charges, including the two counts of intentional second-degree murder, unintentional second-degree murder and a misdemeanor weapon carrying charge, were dismissed. Parker will get 571 days of credit for time served.

    The U.S. Forest Service says a wildfire burning in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area is much smaller than originally thought, but still poses a problem for firefighters. The scope of the Horse River Fire has shrunk in size from 20 acres to nine acres, after the U.S. Forest Service says more accurate GPS data was collected. While smaller in size, the fire still poses a logistical problem for firefighters, with no proper access to the affected area.
