ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — Penn State won a thriller 3-2 in overtime over UConn to advance to the Frozen Four for the first time in program history. Goals were tough to come by with Huskies goalie Callum Tung stopping 38 of 41 shots while Arsenii Sergeev turned aside 42 of 44 shots. The scoring began early though with Joey Muldowney finding the back of the net just three minutes into the game to put UConn up 1-0.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) — After winning its fourth consecutive NCAA team championship, Penn State wrestler’s Carter Starocci and Mitchell Mesenbrink have been named two of the three finalists for the Hodge Trophy. The Hodge Trophy is given to the top wrestler in the nation. Starocci became the first wrestler to win five national titles, while Mesenbrink won an individual title at 165 pounds.

ALTOONA, PA. (WTAJ) — Bishop Guilfoyle is now one step away from repeating as state champions after the Marauders defeated Bishop Carroll 49-42 in the Class 1A semifinals. In a back and forth game the Marauders led 28-23 at halftime, but the Huskies came out on fire in the third quarter and opened the frame on a 10-3 run to take a two point lead. The contest then went to the fourth quarter tied at 33.

(WTAJ) — The quest for college wrestling immortality will take place this week in Philadelphia as Penn State’s Carter Starocci looks to become the sport’s first five-time national champion. “Carter is one of those guys that he’s given a great effort every single day. Every day he trains every competition,” said head coach Cael Sanderson.
