Pixar has had a bit of a bumpy ride at the box office over the last handful of years. Dating back to the original "Toy Story" in 1995, Pixar was one of Hollywood's most reliable hit-makers, particularly when it came to original movies. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic changed all of that in 2020, and Disney's golden animation studio has fallen on relatively tough times.

While it took a lot longer than many filmgoers would have liked, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland finally reunited for "28 Years Later," which hit theaters over the weekend. Serving as a sequel to their horror classic "28 Days Later" (and its follow-up "28 Weeks Later"), the movie picks up with a group of survivors nearly three decades into a zombie apocalypse. It's an intriguing concept that managed to bring out moviegoers en masse, leading to one heck of an opening weekend.

Hollywood really loves a franchise, particularly in the last 20 years. The business has become downright obsessed with keeping a once-beloved series of films alive, often bringing something back that's been dead for several years. It was yet another big weekend for horror at the summer box office as director Danny Boyle’s very long awaited 28 Years Later finally hit theaters. We’ve been waiting so long for this movie that it was at one time going to be titled 28 Months later, carrying on the tradition of his original zombie classic 28 Days Later. In any event, the long wait didn’t disappoint as it posted one of the biggest opening weekends at the box office for a zombie movie in quite some time.

The "Jurassic World" trilogy, not unlike the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, is going to go down as a mixed bag in one of the world's biggest franchises. The first movie in the series, directed by Colin Trevorrow, was a massive hit, bringing us back to a fully functioning dinosaur theme park. The sequel, "Fallen Kingdom," literally blew up Isla Nublar and helped set up a world where dinosaurs and humans would be forced to co-exist.
