The Biden-Harris administration claimed that Idaho’s law violates the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), which prohibits Medicare-funded hospitals from dumping patients who can’t pay by requiring the hospitals to stabilize or transfer patients experiencing medical emergencies.
