Montgomery County started its annual count of its unhoused population early Wednesday morning. It's part of the national Point In Time count conducted within the last 10 days of January. It aims to create a national snapshot of homelessness. Teams of volunteers and outreach workers traveled in teams of three or four around the county. They dispersed from the St. Vincent Shelter on Apple Street at 3:30 AM.

Community members gathered for an open wedding this weekend. Harmony Creek Church invited couples to receive a free, all-inclusive ceremony. The event hoped to allow LGBTQ+ couples to "tie the knot" amidst concerns that changes may come to marriage equality laws. Michelle Wilkey, a pastor from Harmony Creek Church of Kettering, officiated. “Here at Harmony Creek church, we are always going to boldly stand on the side of love,” said Wilkey during the ceremony.

Harmony Creek Church of Kettering is sponsoring a free marriage ceremony and legal education workshop for LGBTQ+ couples later this month. The church describes itself as open and affirming to the LGBTQ+ community. It will hold a community wedding ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Brick and Beam venue in Dayton. Bryant Bailey has been working on the construction of a veteran's community in rural Champaign County for more than three years. He is CEO of the Support Our Veterans Corporation, a nonprofit he created to help pay for the project. It's taking shape in Woodstock, a town with fewer than 300 residents. Bailey's plan is to line the property with 14 homes and offer them to unhoused veterans through the Dayton VA Medical Center.

EnterTrainment Junction — the West Chester attraction that claims to have held the world’s largest indoor model train display since 2008 — will close in January. The 25,000 square foot display shares the history of U.S. transportation since the invention of the steam engine in the 1800s. Don Oeters, its owner and founder, said the attraction has had some marketing difficulties. For many, the train-themed building off of I-75 remains a mystery beyond its enthusiasm for locomotives.
