The cold mill at integrated steelmaker US Steel's Mon Valley mill in Pennsylvania is running at reduced rates after a maintenance outage. The company confirmed it took a 14-day outage that lasted through the end of October at its Irvin plant, a part of the Mon Valley mill south of Pittsburgh. A portion of the outage was to upgrade electrical drives in the cold mill. US Steel is now commissioning the electrical drive, which means the cold mill is running at reduced rates.

Published date: 07 November 2023 Integrated steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs has increased its minimum hot-rolled coil (HRC) price to $1,000/short ton (st). The price rise is $100/st higher than its previous minimum set on 31 October. The company also said it would increase cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) coil pricing, without setting a price minimum for those products.

Integrated steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs has raised its hot-rolled coil (HRC) prices to $900/short ton (st), joining one of its rivals. The new price is $100/st higher than the prior minimum price Cliffs set on 19 October. Cliffs said it also raised cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil pricing but did not announce minimum prices for those products. The Argus US Midwest and southern HRC ex-works assessments are at $800/st.

Electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Nucor is dropping its discrete plate prices by $140/short ton (st). Nucor set the discrete plate prices at $1,390/st ex-works for 72-120in wide material that is 3/8-2in thick. The company is now taking orders for December production. The Argus plate ex-works assessment is down by 3.4pc to $1,405/st from the beginning of the year. Plate remains at a large premium to hot-rolled coil (HRC), which is at $800/st.
