On April 15, 2023, war erupted in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, triggering the biggest displacement crisis in the world. “It was a panic,” one refugee remarked as he witnessed some of the millions of refugees who have been forced to flee their homes because of violence, persecution, and famine. As the world’s focus is consumed by other wars, Sudan—nearing total collapse on all fronts—is pleading for attention.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants made the dangerous journey to Europe in 2023, fleeing war, poverty, and natural disasters. The increase in arrivals has fueled support for far-right political parties. The long and often arduous journey to Europe has not been a dealbreaker for the hundreds of thousands of migrants who have arrived on the continent illegally in recent years. More than 385,000 such migrants entered Europe in 2023, nearly triple the pandemic-era low in 2020.

Der positive Trend setzt sich fort: Im Jahr 2023 hat die SBB täglich 1,32 Millionen Personen (2022: 1,16 Millionen) transportiert und damit das Niveau aus dem Rekordjahr 2019 wieder erreicht; dies ist auch der Verdienst der SBB Mitarbeitenden. La tendance positive se poursuit: en 2023, les CFF ont transporté chaque jour 1,32 million de personnes (2022: 1,16 million), retrouvant ainsi le niveau record de 2019. Les collaboratrices et collaborateurs des CFF y sont pour beaucoup. De plus en plus de personnes choisissent le train pour voyager en Suisse et dans les pays voisins dans le cadre de leurs loisirs. Le retour de la clientèle se traduit par une augmentation des recettes.
