On April 15, 2023, war erupted in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, triggering the biggest displacement crisis in the world. “It was a panic,” one refugee remarked as he witnessed some of the millions of refugees who have been forced to flee their homes because of violence, persecution, and famine. As the world’s focus is consumed by other wars, Sudan—nearing total collapse on all fronts—is pleading for attention.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants made the dangerous journey to Europe in 2023, fleeing war, poverty, and natural disasters. The increase in arrivals has fueled support for far-right political parties.
The long and often arduous journey to Europe has not been a dealbreaker for the hundreds of thousands of migrants who have arrived on the continent illegally in recent years. More than 385,000 such migrants entered Europe in 2023, nearly triple the pandemic-era low in 2020.

Der positive Trend setzt sich fort: Im Jahr 2023 hat die SBB täglich 1,32 Millionen Personen (2022: 1,16 Millionen) transportiert und damit das Niveau aus dem Rekordjahr 2019 wieder erreicht; dies ist auch der Verdienst der SBB Mitarbeitenden. Immer mehr Menschen sind in der Freizeit mit der Bahn im Inland und den umliegenden Destinationen in Europa unterwegs.

Prosegue il trend positivo: con 1,32 milioni di persone trasportate ogni giorno (2022: 1,16 milioni), nel 2023 le FFS hanno raggiunto i livelli record del 2019, anche grazie al grande impegno del personale. Sono sempre di più le persone che nel tempo libero viaggiano con la ferrovia in Svizzera e verso destinazioni dei Paesi limitrofi.

La tendance positive se poursuit: en 2023, les CFF ont transporté chaque jour 1,32 million de personnes (2022: 1,16 million), retrouvant ainsi le niveau record de 2019. Les collaboratrices et collaborateurs des CFF y sont pour beaucoup. De plus en plus de personnes choisissent le train pour voyager en Suisse et dans les pays voisins dans le cadre de leurs loisirs. Le retour de la clientèle se traduit par une augmentation des recettes.

Azerbaijan’s military takeover of Nagorno-Karabakh sparked a mass exodus of nearly the entire region’s population of ethnic Armenians.
Most of the population of the breakaway state of Nagorno-Karabakh has fled to Armenia after Azerbaijan launched a deadly military operation there in September.
The ensuing seizure of the region ended more than three decades of self-declared independence by the ethnic Armenian–controlled enclave.

Le projet de doublement de la voie entre Gléresse et Douanne prévoyait une mise en service des infrastructures fin 2026. Au cœur du projet : la construction d'un tunnel à double voie de 2,1 kilomètres de long à Gléresse. La procédure d’attribution du marché a cependant été retardée de près de deux ans en raison de plusieurs recours d’entreprises ayant répondu à l’appel d’offre.

Das Projekt des Doppelspurausbaus zwischen Ligerz und Twann sah ursprünglich eine Inbetriebnahme Ende 2026 vor. Kernstück des Bauvorhabens: der Bau eines doppelspurigen, 2,1 Kilometer langen Tunnels in Ligerz. Der Zuschlag der Bauaufträge erfolgt um fast zwei Jahre verzögert, weil Unternehmen, die im Ausschreibungsverfahren unterlegen sind, Beschwerde eingelegt haben. Im Juni 2023 hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht eine letzte Beschwerde abgewiesen.

Les CFF doivent actuellement relever de nombreux défis: de l’interruption actuelle dans le tunnel de base du Saint-Gothard à la tâche, de plus en plus difficile, d’effectuer des travaux d’entretien et d’extension du réseau ferroviaire sans interruption du trafic. Les CFF remercient leurs clientes et clients, ainsi que les acteurs politiques, pour la confiance et la compréhension dont ils ont fait preuve.
