Brisbane-based Pixel Zoo Animation is making an original content push with the launch of a new division called Pixel Labs. The service studio has hired Emmy-winning kids media exec Josh Fisher to head up development out of a new office in LA, establishing Pixel Zoo’s first-ever US location. Pixel Zoo was acquired by MGA Studios in late 2022 to support MGA Entertainment in its ambition to establish a bigger footheld in the content market.

One month after the introduction of an executive order to slash federal funding for public broadcasting, PBS is taking legal action to challenge US President Donald Trump and his administration. The pubcaster and its member station in Northern Minnesota filed the lawsuit in a US District Court of Washington DC on May 30. PBS is following in the footsteps of fellow public media outlet NPR, which opened a similar case against the Trump administration just three days ago.

This CG toon tags along with a mermaid princess learning to navigate life on land. It has been greenlit for a third season that will launch in 2026—and its footprint in the APAC region is growing with acquisitions from Netflix Korea, Singapore’s Mediacorp and Mentari TV in Indonesia.

Mediawan has brought in two high-level leaders while it executes a distribution team rejig tied to its acquisition of Germany’s Leonine Studios last year. Joining the French conglomerate as head of global partnerships and new business for Mediawan Kids & Family is Marie Lassal (pictured left), who’ll work closely with the division’s animation studios to finance series and run its commercial teams.
