One People Tribe has been running operations at the South Vallejo Community Center for a year as of April 1. This Easter, they are hosting a celebration — equal parts grand opening, one anniversary party and Easter celebration. Contracted out by the Greater Vallejo Recreation District to revise the center, One People Tribe founder Izzy Drumgoole says it’s been a slow process learning the ropes and engaging with the community.

Decked Out at The Quarters, a free music and entertainment event, is returning on April 27 after a successful first year in 2024. The event is put on by The Mare Island Company and is set to feature more than 20 local musicians, artists organizations and food and beverage trucks. Last year at the inaugural event, over 4,000 people attended. “We learned that we have a lot of fans of Mare Island,” laughs Director of Marketing Rebecca Kotch. This year, they are hoping to bring out even more of Vallejo.

“Bamboozled,” the latest play with Benicia Theatre Group, opens April 18. Led by a cast of four female characters and directed by Terrence Tyrie Ivory, the play tackles issues of prejudice and identity through satire. Ivory has been directing for more than 25 years since his days in graduate school. Now, he is returning for the third time to Benicia Theatre Group. Written by local playwright Patricia Milton in 2018, “Bamboozled” is inspired by a true story.

Ever since Vacaville resident Tatiana White was a little girl, she’s been a natural storyteller. Now, the culmination of her lifetime of make believe, “The Gifted Society” is out and ready to read. White’s debut fantasy novel tells the story of 16-year-old Alexia and her secret strange abilities. She must go on a journey to save her friend and face off against powerful adversaries in the process. Although the book was just recently published in 2024, for White, the process began decades ago.
