Marketing controversy aside, Thursday night’s MicroMania’s West Coast wrestling show at a sold-out Journey Downtown in Vacaville was met by plenty of enthusiasm. Few in attendance seemed concerned with pre-show questions of the use of the word “midget” in the tour’s publicity run. The show is raunchy, frequently joking about sex and race and size, which the audience accepted and often encouraged.

Organizers of Saturday’s Vallejo Juneteenth festivities, a parade and festival once again celebrating the end of slavery in the United States and the resilience of black citizens worldwide, are hopeful of drawing a crowd of up to 2,000 the city. For eight years, Vallejo Juneteenth President Don Jordan has been working to expand the event from the ground up. ‘I started as a grunt,” laughs, Jordan.

Down by Dawn, a Pinoy Punk band from Vallejo, began in the high school bedrooms of singer/guitarist Jouz Aguila and bassist Aaron "Allen" Jacob Santos. Now the expanded group will perform music from their latest EP at a special Dads and Grads show this Father's Day. Down by Dawn has been a creative outlet for Aguila ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began just after he left high school. In 2023, Santos and Aguila recruited their friend and drummer Chris Uganiza to join and the rest is history.
