“We weren’t trying to recreate the 1930s,” says interior designer Magdalena Keck. “We wanted to distill the essence of Art Deco style – its structure and geometry – and interpret it in a way that feels right for today.”That vision came to life at 270 Broadway, a limestone tower overlooking City Hall Park in New York City. Completed in the 1930s, the building is a Manhattan landmark, with classic Art Deco style proportions and details.

Perhaps it’s the soothing sage green in the primary bedroom, the sky blue living-dining area or the putty pink hues of the guest room. In Conshohocken, a rapidly revitalising post-industrial borough outside Philadelphia, an unassuming 1930s stone colonial has been reborn as a sprawling, 5,700-square-foot “rich ranch” retreat.
