In Zimbabwe’s busiest cities—Harare and Bulawayo—it’s hard to miss the white, pizza-box-shaped Starlink terminals mounted on cars. Even the humblest Honda Fit taxis cruise from suburb to suburb with these satellite kits bolted to their roofs, a visible symbol of the country’s latest tech interest. When Starlink landed in Zimbabwe in late September 2024, it was noted as a big step forward especially for a country where reliable internet remains elusive outside the urban core.

On the morning of June 19, thousands of Mukuru customers in South Africa woke up to missing funds from their accounts. Some found their balances down by thousands of rand or to zero. Mukuru blamed a technical glitch for the error adding that it is only how balances are shown that has been affected not the actual funds in users’ accounts. “All funds are safe and the issue only impacted how balances were shown, not the actual funds,” Mukuru told TechCabal.

Uber Eats has launched ‘Live’, a new feature that lets users order food and drinks right from their seats at select event venues, changing the live entertainment experience for South Africans. When attending a live concert or a football match at any of these venues, a user can open the Uber Eats app, choose a meal from available food stalls at the event venue, and have it delivered to them right where they are sitting.
