New Delhi: The first time any relief material arrived in the town of Saikul in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, one of the worst affected in the ongoing strife, the state had already seen two weeks of horrific violence. The very first gunny bags full of medicines, baby food, diapers, sanitary napkins, and clothes that arrived in Saikul had been collected and dispatched from Delhi by a collective of women from the tribal communities of the north east.

New Delhi: Subhawati Devi was fast asleep when just past midnight, a team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) arrived in her locality, in the Chhuriya Mohalla of Tughlaqabad Village, near the historic Tughlaqabad Fort on April 30, 2023. The team announced that all residents must vacate their homes and belongings and relocate elsewhere. Most of the residents of the neighbourhood are migrant workers from Bihar and West Bengal working in Delhi as daily wage earners and domestic workers.

Bhubaneswar: Sridevi was all of 13 when she ran away from her home in Warangal in central Telangana to escape the daily violence inflicted on her for asserting her identity as a trans woman. She tried to start a new life in Secunderabad, an unknown city full of unfamiliar faces, but realised that her troubles had just begun. She longed for a home of her own. Two years later, her family found her and took her back to Warangal, and the violence resumed.
