To dispose of expired flares, do not light them, throw them overboard, or add them to household garbage. CanBoat / NautiSavoir volunteers and select CIL Dealers are hosting Safety Equipment Education and Flare Disposal Days (see below) to collect expired marine flares for neutralization and safe disposal.

    (Above and beyond the standard fuel and safety equipment for a small boat)• Two handheld radios and each of us always has one on our person. We also carry a SPOT messenger device and have predesignated check-in times with family. • Flagging tape, a GPS and a compass. • A few sources of fire starter. We each carry our own in safe waterproof stashes. We do all our cooking on small fires below the tide line to avoid carrying stoves and extra fuel canisters.

    Boaters will see improved stern ties when visiting Jedediah Marine Provincial Park this fall. The stern tie pins and chains in Deep Bay have been upgraded with the replacement of several pins and all of the chains with galvanised materials. In addition, a high-visibility marker has been added to make each of the 17 stern ties visible along the shoreline. This project was initiated by the BC Marine Parks Forever Society (MPFS) and completed by the Park Operator, Innovative Aquaculture Products Ltd.
