More than 100 of Britain's most renowned athletes have written an open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer urging the government to back London's bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. Sir Mo Farah, Keely Hodgkinson, Dame Kelly Holmes, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Daley Thompson are among the athletes, past and present, to sign the letter.

Grand Slam Track is investigating the alleged abuse of three-time Olympic gold medallist Gabby Thomas at a meet in Philadelphia over the weekend. The American sprinter posted on X on Monday to say that a man had followed her around the track and then shouted personal insults at her as she signed autographs for fans. Advertisement"Honestly the heckling is tolerable, it's following me around the stadium that's wild," Thomas, 28, wrote in a later post.

Having said he "didn't enjoy" his battling win over Damir Dzumhur in the third round, Alcaraz was far closer to his best on Sunday and he had to be against the big-hitting Shelton. The first set headed to a tie-break after only one unconverted break point for Alcaraz but it was Shelton who initially gained the upper hand. With the crowd roaring their approval as the pair played out a number of stunning points that saw both players at the net, Alcaraz was forced to stave off three set points.
