Soundtracks are an important part of bringing a game to life. Not only can they make or break the whole experience, but a truly incredible score can uplift an experience to something truly special; whether the epic orchestras of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or the one-man compositions of Hollow Knight. When games don’t rely on a composed soundtrack, the focus is often on licensed music. This can be great in its own way, and I’ve found a lot of artists I now love through titles like Life is Strange.

Okay, I get it, the world is ending. The gates to Oblivion have opened, and we’re the only one who can stop it by closing the gates and bringing the next heir to light the Dragonfires once more. But please, can we stop opening so many gates? I was just trying to make my way to Anvil from the Imperial City, and closed about seven gates - at one point, I had three different gates in my line of sight.

I like video games when they’re simple. Maybe it’s the old age (I’m 27), or maybe it’s working in this industry, but I often lean towards games that aren’t going to require a strenuous amount of effort. Ones that will just allow me to shut off and not overthink, letting me slip away from anything serious for a while. And then sometimes, I like to inflict that strenuous effort on myself for no other reason than stubborn pride.

Good sequels are rare. Not impossible, but there’s a much larger pile of follow-ups over the years we’d rather not talk about than ones we’d praise. Journey to the Savage Planet was a silly, fun adventure through a bizarre-but-savage planet. Revenge of the Savage Planet is a silly, fun adventure through multiple bizarre-but-savage planets. As simple as the formula upgrade seems, it’s a brilliant sequel. How many times can I say ‘savage’ in one article? Dear reader, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

While Journey to the Savage Planet was a first-person adventure, Revenge of the Savage Planet gives us a new perspective on surviving an alien planet. The third-person perspective, to be precise.
