Mizzou safety Isaac Thompson announces medical retirement

Missouri safety Isaac Thompson announced his medical retirement from football Tuesday. Thompson suffered a lower-leg injury during the 2023 offseason, resulting in him undergoing three knee surgeries over a two-year period. The safety was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022 out of St. Louis University High School. Thompson committed to Missouri over Arkansas, Texas, Michigan and Florida. He ranked as the No. 135 player in the country and seventh at his position in 2022.

In 1972, Mizzou football made history with back-to-back wins against two top 10 teams. After the 2-3 Tigers defeated No. 8 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., Missouri carried that momentum into their next game against No. 7 Colorado on Faurot Field. With six seconds left in the game, Mizzou defied expectations by taking down the Buffalos 20-17, after a walk-off field goal.
