A row between a developer and residents was caught on camera after proposals for six flats on a “tiny parcel” of land were approved. The “fracas” outside Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s (FHDC) offices last week meant a planning committee meeting had to be paused as staff were called to intervene. KentOnline reporter Sam Lennon, who was in attendance, filmed part of the argument, which had already started between developer Leo Griggs and objectors, including Stephen Secular.

Dozens of residents are being put up in a hotel following a devastating fire at a block of flats - as council bosses say some have “lost everything”. Building owner Town and Country Housing says 57 residents in 38 flats had to leave Conqueror House in Crabble Hill, Dover, after flames ripped through the block early on Easter Sunday. Firefighters stayed at the scene for more than 30 hours, and the cause of the blaze is still being investigated.

It was not so much one step beyond as a short hop to visit a Kent seaside town for one of the UK’s best-loved singers. Suggs, frontman of Madness, visited Herne Bay pier on Saturday to the delight of onlooking staff and visitors. The musician, originally from Camden in north London, is no stranger to the area with he and his wife having a beach hut in nearby Whitstable. Madness also headline another show at Margate’s Dreamland this summer.

Relgious figures in Kent have joined the global mourning over the death of Pope Francis today (Monday). He passed away aged 88 just as he had been convalescing after being treated in hospital for pneumonia. The Bishop of Dover, Rt Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin said in a statement today: “I’m deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Holiness. “Pope Francis brought hope, not just to millions of Catholics but to so many around the world.

About 18 homes could be without gas for several more days after a car struck a main yesterday. Suppliers SGN say the repair work has turned out to be complex. But the affected householders are being covered with electric heaters and portable hot plates. The homes were affected by the accident at Bullockstone Road, Herne Bay, yesterday (Sunday). A nearby caravan site was also evacuated as a precaution. A spokesperson for SGN told KentOnline today.
