    I began writing my doctoral thesis in 2018. I decided to research and write about sovereignty in the MENA region, focusing on authoritarian regimes such as Syria. Rather than taking a conventional view focusing on so-called ‘authoritarian durability,’ I wanted to focus on why conflicts emerged in autocratic regimes and why I believe they will inevitably continue to occur. Autocratic regimes rely upon a centralised locus of power to manifest their rule and sovereignty.

    The presidential election is done and dusted as Kamala Harris was on the receiving end of a generational result. This was not though the type of result many wanted. Rather than celebrating the first woman president the American people decisively rejected the Biden presidency and with it the vice president. Instead, America has chosen the orange goon whose criminality is not an opinion but a matter of fact.
