With political turmoil at all levels of government, many problems may get overlooked or delayed. But I worry about one in particular that could have calamitous results as time goes on: The BQE’s triple-cantilevered section in Brooklyn Heights. It doesn’t care who is mayor or that a U.S. president may cut off transportation funding because of congestion pricing. Approaching 80-years-old, it continues to deteriorate and crumble.

Gov. Hochul played poker with the future of New York, expecting to draw the Harris card and instead getting stuck with the Trump card! All this to garner favor with suburban voters by stopping congestion pricing in its tracks, so that they’d vote the local Democratic nominees into the House and presidency. It was a colossal failure, and we are the ones footing the bill.

When it comes to vehicles on our roads, we all know that speed kills. But not just in the way that you are thinking. Extremely slow speeds, like we are seeing in New York City today and over the past few years, can seriously harm and even kill people, businesses, and neighborhoods. Congestion in New York is worse than it’s ever been, and according to INRIX, a private transportation data analytics firm, the worst in the world!

With all the debate about congestion pricing very little has been said about “congestion.” INRIX just labeled NYC the most congested city on the planet. Traffic speeds in Midtown at 4.5 mph are the lowest ever. The Partnership for New York City says it costs all of us $20 billion annually. But these are just numbers; what do they mean in our daily life? Let me explain in easy-to-understand terms what this means by using yellow taxis as an example.
