HONOLULU (KHON2) — A huge dedication is coming Thursday evening with Honolulu set to honor one of the founders of modern baseball and the first chief of the Honolulu Fire Department, Alexander Cartwright, who is buried in Nuuanu at Oahu Cemetery. “We have a special dedication for the field, for tomorrow night, and we’re gonna we’re gonna dedicate it as the oldest active ball ballpark baseball park in America, which is a pretty big deal,” said Honolulu Chief of Staff Andy Sugg.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The state is hosting another gun buyback event this weekend aimed to encourage residents to surrender unwanted firearms in exchange for gift cards, with no questions asked and no identification required. “We’re asking anybody who has firearms that they no longer have use for, to go ahead and turn those in, and we’ll go ahead and exchange those for some gift cards at a local grocery store,” said the state’s new Department of Law Enforcement Director Mike Lambert.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — There’s a bill gaining steam through the state legislature that will legalize and regulate sports gambling in the state as early as this summer. It’s a trend that’s swept the nation, with 39 states legalizing the practice since a federal Supreme Court ruling in 2018, but some, including the Hawaii State Attorney General and Honolulu Prosecutor, oppose the measure.
