1 INTRODUCTION Attachment characterizes the secure (or insecure) bond between two people, such as parent-child bonds or romantic partner bonds, and is historically associated with social and emotional development among children and adults (e.g., Bretherton, 1985; Millings et al., 2012). Building from work on infant-mother attachment, adult attachment researchers have increasingly focused on the bond between romantic partners (Hazan & Shaver, 1987; Zeifman & Hazan, 2016).
