It’s no secret that if you’re looking to have good time in Dallas, Deep Ellum is one of the best neighborhoods to flock to. This weekend, bars, restaurants and music venues in the neighborhood banded together for the Deep Ellum Block Party. Attendees got a chance to listen to live music, get customized tattoos and support local artists. Performers included Cure for Paranoia, Big Tuck, Rakim al-Jabbaar, Bobby Sessions and headliners, Raekwon and Polyphonic Spree.

Every other year, the Aurora Biennial transforms Dallas into a dazzling display of lights, video and music. This year was special because it was the first time the event took play in-person since 2018. The free public event turned the Dallas Public Library, Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Dallas City Hall and other buildings into art installations with the theme “FuturePresentPast.”Arts Access is an arts journalism collaboration powered by The Dallas Morning News and KERA.

Breaking into the arts world isn’t easy. How do you build a brand? What does it take to make money off your work? Once you do make money what’s the smartest way to invest it to continue to fund your practice? These are all questions artists have to ask themselves, but rarely have access to the information to guide them. That’s why we are hosting Art Hack on November 2 at the Oak Cliff Assembly. The goal is to connect artists with the resources and information they need to thrive.

You MUST read this essay from @elizabeth_myong. I felt so deeply connected to her words. My grandma set the stage for where I am today and yet our lives were so different. I, like Liz, wonder what she would think of my life today. This is an amazing look at legacy and connection.

I wrote this personal essay about my grandma who was a pioneer of her day. She graduated from SMU in the '50s and was one of the only Asian women in her class. This story is about legacy, how my life is intertwined in hers. Love you, grandma.❤️ https://t.co/YBBptvHPrU
