About a hundred thousand people flocked to the park over the course of the weekend to watch the reigning Olympic Champions of both Show-Jumping and Eventing, as well as the top riders from all over the world compete at the very highest level. Germany’s Michael Jung won the gold medal at the World Equestrian Games here in 2010 and is the reigning Olympic Champion - on Sunday afternoon he added a record breaking 5th Kentucky win to his tally. Governor Beshear presented him with the trophy.

No one was surprised when the reigning Olympic Champions, Germany’s Michael Jung and FischerChipmunk FRH took the lead after a flawless dressage test on Thursday. What was astonishing was the score - a jaw dropping 18.6 penalties, smashing his own record for the level that he set on his last visit here in 2022. The next six places on the leaderboard are filled with riders that competed at last summer’s Olympics in Paris.

One horse was disqualified Wednesday afternoon at the first horse inspection, a formal vet check to make sure each horse is fit and sound to compete. Now, 34 horse and rider combinations from six nations will start the first of three phases, the dressage, which takes place Thursday and Friday. They include the current world numbers one and two, Great Britain's Tom McEwan and New Zealand's Tim Price, respectively. Hot favorite though is Germany's Michael Jung riding Fischer chipmunk FRH.

One of only seven five star events in the world annually, the defender Kentucky three day event presented by Mars Equestrian attracts the creme de la creme to compete here in Lexington each year. German Olympic champion, Michael Young, is no stranger to Kentucky. He won a gold medal here at the World Equestrian Games in 2010. This week, Hillride has Paris Olympics gold medal winning partner, Fischer Chipmunk, FRH, to try to add a record breaking fifth Kentucky title to his name.
