    Our approach to kinship care in the family and children team at Russell-Cooke has always been robust: if a child can be cared for by their wider family when their parents cannot meet their needs, then we do all we can to try and achieve that. It is a cause for concern that in many cases we rely on parents to put forward family members to care for their children if they cannot; we think it’s also up to the professionals in the case to find and pursue family members.

    There is nothing new about the concept of a toxic workplace. The idea was first proposed in 1975 by psychologist Herbert Freudenberger to characterise workplaces blighted by abusive relationships, bullying, and harassment by senior staff and leaders. Freudenberger pointed to the risks to organisations from such toxicity in terms of emotional exhaustion and low motivation, leading to low productivity in staff. Even today, the toxic workplace remains a relatively common phenomenon.

The program — called Next Climate Fellowship — is open to youth age 11 to 13, with applications due by March 13. The objective is to teach young people more about climate change and how and where they can make a positive impact, as well as to expose them to global climate change-related projects and innovations.

    Russell-Cooke’s children law team recently won a pivotal case in the Court of Appeal. The appeal clarified whether section 20 of the Children Act 1989 (CA, 1989) can be used for a long-term or permanent placement of children in care. Section 20 of CA 1989 provides for children to be accommodated in care when they cannot live with their families and can only be used with the parents’ consent.
