BarnHill Vineyards co-owners Steven and Corey Neuner felt called to the place the moment they found out it was up for sale. The reason? Steven’s dad’s love of wine and a case of COVID-19 cabin fever. Back then, Steven Neuner wasn’t too knowledgeable about local vineyards; he doesn’t even drink. His father, however, had been an avid wine collector and traveler. During the early days of COVID, his dad, who had been diagnosed with terminal pulmonary fibrosis, was stuck at home for months on end.

Sitting in the heart of the Bishop Arts District is a butterscotch yellow and white store the size of an elevator shaft. Outside its double entry doors hangs a sign that reads “Petite Saison,” or “Small Season” in French, an appropriate name for a 150-square-foot shop. Although small in square footage, the permanent Dallas pop-up aims to make a mighty impact for local small businesses, artists and creators.

Freshly moved to San Antonio from her home in Nicaragua, Ceci Callejas, then just 18 years old, bought her first guitar to cure her boredom while at college. Although the instrument started as a random attempt at a hobby, it later became one of Callejas’ only constants — and sometimes, even a “best friend” — in a chapter of her life full of instability and uncertainty.

The Dallas Public Library is ringing in the 2024 election season this month with its own Parks and Recreation Unity Concert. No, it’s not an attempt to bring rival cities Pawnee and Eagleton (or, in this case, Dallas and Fort Worth) together, but rather an effort to encourage Dallasites of all beliefs to vote. DPL’s Unity Concert: Your Vote Rocks will be held 2–6 p.m., Aug. 24, on the first floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library (1515 Young St.).
