Henrico County issued a boil water advisory Wednesday afternoon, on the third day of a regional water emergency triggered by a power outage at Richmond’s water treatment plant on Monday, Jan. 6 caused by a winter storm. Richmond water boil advisory ‘unlikely’ to lift before FridayAs crews work to repressurize the city’s water system, Henrico residents must boil water before drinking or cooking with it, county leaders said in a news release, as Henrico’s water system interconnects with Richmond’s.

Having not showered for days himself, Richmond mayor Danny Avula met with members of the media Wednesday morning with a blend of technical infrastructure updates and a warning that water may not be safe to consume without boiling it before Friday. “I think it is unlikely that we will lift the water boil advisory before Friday,” he said. Richmond residents have either had no water or low water pressure since a winter storm caused a power outage that disrupted the city’s water reservoir system.
