Whenever I travel, I miss the reliable home Wi-Fi network to stay connected. I, too, have ignorantly connected my devices to public Wi-Fi networks, Airbnbs, cafés, hotels, and other public places without considering the security risks. I decided to turn my Raspberry Pi into a travel router and carry it everywhere possible. RaspAP is a popular free software that turns the Raspberry Pi into a wireless router. I had a Raspberry Pi lying around and wanted to put it to good use.

Monitoring the health of a Raspberry Pi server without a GUI is tricky. Running commands in the Terminal over SSH sounded cool, but I wasn't aware of the high system usage and overheating issues. So, I tried Cockpit, a web-based GUI for system health monitoring for Linux servers, to manage my Raspberry Pi and realized how it was sorely missing from the bouquet of my self-hosted apps. Setting up Home Assistant armed my home with the smarts I always wanted. The next logical step was to create automation using the different IoT devices. Still teething around my way with automation, I found the visual editor easy to use instead of editing the YAML configuration files. Thankfully, Home Assistant provides a handful of user-friendly features to kick off the journey to build automation with the least hassle.

This is 2025 and it's sad to witness such things. The very people whom all look up to for ethics should do better.

Here's @mid_day who hasn't credited me for photos again. I've been assured this wouldn't happen repeatedly, yet it continues. This instance the photo was sent directly by the artist, but they've taken many photos from IG previously. I'm not sure how to deal with this issue. https://t.co/VQgHpAbgwh
