Another day of the offseason, and another day counting down to the start of NHL Free Agency for the Washington Capitals. It won’t be as busy of an offseason for D.C. as last year, but there are areas to address, including answering the third-line center question and bringing in another skilled forward. All the while, it’s award season, and a number of Capitals earned consideration for the Selke. Ballots are also being released from PHWA members, including yours truly.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Tom Wilson doesn’t spend a lot of time thinking about himself. After all, even before joining the Washington Capitals, he’s had one mentality when it comes to the game of hockey, and that’s the team above all. The Capitals just haven’t been good enough this series; they know that. Now, with their backs against their walls at the hands of the Hurricanes, they’re ready to fight to the bitter end to save a special season. How do they do that? Let’s take a look. https://t.co/6IFCu41v1q

In this series, there have only been remnants of the "comeback Capitals" that dominated the regular season. Now on the brink of elimination against the Hurricanes, the #ALLCAPS are ready to fight to the bitter end to stay alive. The team's game plan: https://t.co/6IFCu41v1q

And you definitely do! It’s a balance and there are journalists who are great at doing it, and journalists who can’t navigate it that well. But expecting someone to be a robot covering a sport they love, that’s just not the way to go

@sammisilber It’s impossible to give up true fandom. But you try very hard to be more self aware. Ask yourself, “Would I say this if I weren’t a homer for team XYZ?”
