For the family drawing this familiar circus, things have been equally chaotic.

In his role as handyman at a guesthouse being used to house homeless people, Ricky Lee had keys to every bedroom. He had previously been placed at Eastfield guesthouse in Peterborough as a homeless person himself, and had moved into a caravan in the grounds, where he lived for free in return for carrying out maintenance jobs on site. Lee was later convicted of raping and sexually assaulting women staying at the guesthouse over a seven-month period.

Three-year-old Ezaan has been homeless his entire life. Instead of making memories in a childhood home, he has spent his formative years stuck in hotels and a cramped student dorm. His mother, Sumaira Fareed, was made homeless more than three years ago. She was asked to leave her single persons hostel – where children were not allowed to live – after giving birth. She tended to her newborn for a month in hospital as the pair had nowhere else to go.
