Undergoing ventilation tube insertion (VTI) in the first 3 years of life was associated with a small but consistent negative impact on long-term language outcomes at around the age of 6 and 10 years in this study. Children who received VTI had the lowest mean language scores, compared to children who did not undergo the surgery or those who had no history of recurrent otitis media (OM).
