During the first quarter, only 13 orders were placed at Chinese yards, its lowest level for the quarter since 1993, data from Howe Robinson showed. “The possibility of sanctions on US port calls of Chinese-built vessels severely weighed on interest in Chinese shipbuilding,” the shipbroker said.

And that spells bad news for bulker demand, they argue. A maritime ceasefire and US efforts to restore Russia’s access to global agricultural and fertiliser markets could allow Black Sea grain shipments to continue uninterrupted, analysts say.
