2 A powerful earthquake killed more than 140 people in Myanmar on Friday, authorities said, toppling buildings and wrecking infrastructure across a wide area, including a skyscraper under construction in neighbouring Thailand. Much of the devastation was in Myanmar’s second largest city, Mandalay, which lies close to the epicentre of the 7.7 magnitude quake that struck at lunchtime and was followed by a powerful aftershock and several more moderate ones.

2 In an emotional address to the country, Prime Minister Mia Mottley strongly condemned the tragic death of 13-year-old Shawnaton Chase who was shot while watching a netball game in Silver Hill, Christ Church on Tuesday night.. “Last night, an innocent child lost his life having been caught in the crossfire of senseless violence,” Prime Minister Mottley said, her voice shaky at times.

1 The Barbados Youth Development Council (BYDC) has expressed profound sorrow and outrage over the death of a 13-year-old boy who was shot at Silver Hill, Christ Church last night. “We are deeply heartbroken by the passing of this young life,” BYDC President Caleb Brathwaite said in a statement. “This tragedy is a stark and painful reminder that our young people are being robbed of their futures by senseless violence. A child’s life should never be cut short in this way.

1 The 13-year-old boy who was shot on Tuesday night at Silver Hill, Christ Church has died. The teen, who suffered injuries to his abdomen and chest, while watching a netball game passed away while undergoing treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Police said the teen was watching a game of netball being played on the hardcourt in the area when two gunmen appeared from behind the housing units and discharged a number of shots in the direction of the hardcourt.
