Optimist Open at Parkstone Yacht Club by Sandy Ramus, Kate Davis and Melissa Franklin 13 Oct 10:52 BST It was time for the annual Parkstone Optimist Open Meeting 2024, which took place two weekends ago. It was a weekend of winds at either extreme with day 1 of drifting to day 2 of thrilling races that kept both sailors and spectators on their toes. Main Fleet Day 1 greeted us with a beautifully sunny Poole Harbour and a light North Westerly breeze.

Magic Marine Optimist open meeting at Hayling Island Sailing Club by Sandy Ramus 14 Jun 17:07 BST With 156 entries signed up, this event promised to be one of the highlights of the Optimist racing calendar. The boats were divided into three, ability based, fleets. A coached regatta fleet for those just starting out on their racing journey was a new experimental fleet this year and ended up being oversubscribed with more than 25 children on a waiting list.

IOCA Optimist Team Racing Championship 2023 at Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy by Sandy Ramus 17 Aug 23:42 BST On Sunday 6th August, 56 Optimists hit Portland Harbour to contest the inaugural (or at least first in living memory) UK Optimist Team Racing Championship. The sailors had formed teams of four, with many getting into the team spirit with matching bibs and practice sessions in advance.
