    SWANTON — The question of allowing chickens to dwell in the village was settled at Monday’s council meeting, although no decisions were made on the issue of cars parked in residents’ lawns. In order to allow chickens in the village, a change to ordinances would have been necessary because currently, no farm animals are allowed within the village limits.

    DELTA — Discussion from village council Monday centered on a presentation about conduit financing for the development of Delta Acres, LLC, a planned subdivision, as council explores ways to finance the project infrastructure. A third and final approval went to an ordinance establishing the review process for site plans by the Delta Planning Commission and the village council. Three ordinances which had final readings concerned data sharing between departments.

    DELTA — In a cost-saving move, Delta Village Council Monday approved the first reading of an ordinance combining the water and wastewater department into a single department, titled the Department Of Public Utilities. A new position of superintendent of public utilities is also being created. The new position takes over management for both the departments of water and wastewater, with anticipated savings coming by not filling the currently vacant wastewater supervisor position.

    SWANTON — Village council Monday began the process of taking down the former Elks Club. Council passed via emergency measure an ordinance that will allow the village to take possession of the former Elks Club building at 116 and 118 North Main St. through an order of eminent domain. The ordinance stated the village has tried without success to purchase the building and so now the village administration has moved to take the property for the good and safety of the community.

    SWANTON — There were few open seats at Monday’s public hearing about allowing chickens in the village of Swanton. The general consensus of those in attendance seemed to indicate they were not in favor of allowing chickens in the village’s backyards. One objector, Bill Pilliod, presented council with the signatures of 67 people against egg-laying hens in the village. The discussion started at the Feb.
