This retrospective cohort study used the NHIRD in Taiwan, which incorporates data from over 20,000 contracted healthcare facilities, covering 92% of nationwide hospitals and clinics and representing more than 99% of the Taiwanese population. Access to the NHIRD data was obtained for research purposes, following strict privacy guidelines. Personal identifiers were systemically removed to safeguard patient anonymity during the analysis.

It is globally estimated that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is associated with about 22% of all acute lower respiratory infections [1], and this results in approximately 84 500–125 200 deaths per year in young children [2]. Several studies have been conducted to understand the burden of RSV-associated infections, hospitalizations, and deaths in children in Europe.
