There is nothing like being slapped in the face with your own mortality for you to start re-evaluating what truly is and is not important in life. I used to ask, “Why me?” when I thought about why my 29-year-old self was diagnosed with cancer the first time. Or when I asked why the 38-year-old me got diagnosed for the sixth time. What had I done? Who, what greater deity, had I angered to deserve this?
