GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. – A Flint high school student has been charged for allegedly having a loaded gun in his backpack, officials said. On Monday, Jan. 6, officials at Flex High School, which is located in Hallwood Plaza on Clio Road, reported to police that a student was being detained after a gun was allegedly found during a routine search. A loaded 9mm semiautomatic gun in the student’s backpack, according to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office.

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – A missing Michigan man who was last seen during a family gathering in Frankenmuth has been found dead, police said. Robert Loren Bacon, 52, of Byron, was reported missing to Frankenmuth police on Dec. 30, 2024. He was last seen at a family get-together at the Bavarian Inn Lodge on Dec. 27. After five days of extensively searching for Bacon, dive teams found his body in the Cass River near Heritage Park at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2025.

James Burke, 28, charged in deadly crashWARREN, Mich. – A Warren police officer has been charged in connection to a crash that killed two men in September. James Burke, 28, was arraigned Friday on two counts of manslaughter with a motor vehicle, one count of moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function and one count of willful neglect of duty. At 5 a.m. on Sept. 30, a white Dodge Durango and Warren police car were involved in a crash on Schoenherr Road at Prospect Road.

A Michigan man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for mail fraud and money laundering in an international telemarketing scheme involving a call center in Pakistan, officials said. Irfan Gill, 63, of Portage, was sentenced after being convicted of seven counts of mail fraud and eleven counts of money laundering. He was also ordered to pay $561,980.27 in restitution to all the victims impacted by this scheme.
