Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States, which has the highest infant and maternal mortality rates of any other high-income country. Georgia, in particular, has some of the worst maternal outcomes in the country (See Figure 1). The Georgia Department of Public Health’s latest Maternal Mortality Report found 35.7 pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births between 2019 and 2021, which is up from 30.2 deaths between 2018 and 2020.
