AMES, Iowa – NASA flight engineers and astronauts Nick Hague and Matt Dominick aboard the International Space Station Expedition 72 answered questions from Iowa 4-H youth and other students via live downlink on Oct. 21. The event, sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program, Iowa State University's Space Grant Consortium and The World Food Prize, was streamed live on YouTube, NASA TV, the NASA smartphone app and the STARS website.

AMES, Iowa – One hundred Iowa 4-H youth participated in behind-the-scenes workshops before attending iLuminate Oct. 21 at Stephens Auditorium in Ames. The workshops and the performance showcased the connections between STEM and the arts. Youth engaged in workshops with partners from the Iowa State University College of Design and the Iowa State University Insect Zoo. Participants learned why some insects glow and had the opportunity to design some of their own.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer. Each year, charities across the United States work to educate the public about breast cancer and raise money to further research that may allow for the development of more effective treatments. According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is expected to have more new cases in 2023 than any other form of cancer, with an estimated 300,590 new cases being anticipated.

AMES, Iowa – The International Harvester Collector’s Club Award Program recognized Iowa 4-H members for their state fair project achievements on Aug. 13 at the Iowa State Fair. All Iowa State Fair 4-H participants with exhibits associated with the International Harvester brand family qualify for this additional award sponsored by the IH Collector’s Club. Youth participants who applied provided information about their project goals, processes, problem-solving, expenses and learning opportunities.
