I find that eggplant is one of those ingredients that can be quite polarizing. People are either team “yes, eggplant” or team “absolutely not.” I happen to firmly believe those in the second camp have simply never had well-prepared eggplant. Here’s the thing: Eggplant can be a bit finicky to make. It can wind up tasting bitter or get slimy when done wrong, which is enough to turn even the most devoted eggplant lover off it.

Picking my favorite food stops in the Seattle area almost feels like choosing a favorite child — impossible. I feel so lucky to have an overflow of options of fresh, healthy, real-food items to choose from in our area — and while we don’t go out to eat super-often in this season of life with three little kids, when we do, we like to make it count.

Just like that, the summer is ending, and we’re darting off into the land of back-to-school energy and cooling-down temperatures. While I typically dread saying goodbye to my beloved favorite season of summer, I can admit: There is something magical about this time of year, too. One thing that I gladly welcome come fall is the arrival of soup season, an occasion we celebrate weekly around my home, if not more.

Something about summer produce is so intoxicating, and I can never get enough fresh herbs, colorful peppers, and juicy tomatoes that flourish this time of year.
