With Halloween right around the corner, the Bates campus and student body are looking forward to welcoming back the Lewiston community for trick-or-treating for the second year. This year, the candy offerings will be slightly more specific. Through his job, one Bates alumnus has provided all 40,000 pieces of candy for the year. Greg Guidotti ‘92 is the Chief Marketing Officer for Ferrara Candy Company and has been with the business for over six years.

Saturday Night Live is currently airing, and there is much buzz around what the show will include for its fiftieth season. With the lineup of hosts and musical guests set, I am excited to see what sketches the writers will bring to the stage this year. One I am particularly excited about is the Nov. 2 episode hosted by John Mulaney with Chappell Roan as the musical guest. His episodes always make me laugh out loud; I love it when comedians host. I have watched SNL since I was a kid.

Each day before leaving their dorms or houses, Batesies finish their outfits by putting on shoes. A seemingly simple step may have larger motivations and implications. The shoes we wear from Commons to the Quad to class can define our personal style and send a message to the larger Bates community about who we are. Shoes are more than a mode of transportation; they represent an understanding of current trends, and self-expression, and serve as a nod to one’s carefully cultivated aesthetic.

In early to mid-February, the song End of Beginning by Djo went semi-viral on TikTok. Maybe it wasn’t viral and my algorithm kept showing me videos with the sound, nevertheless, I have seen over one hundred videos with the song in the background. So, it’s viral for me. This song details the impact Chicago has on people. The band, Djo, is headlined by Joe Keery of Stranger Things, who went to Depaul University in Chicago.
