    In the hour-long meeting Vice President Keith Wallace was successfully ratified to succeed Colin Rugby as President of the Scottish Rugby Union. Colin Rigby will continue to serve on the SRU Custodian Board for a further two-year term as Immediate Past President, which in turn sees former President Ian Barr step down from the SRU Board. In the Vice President election, Hazel Swankie of Dunfermline RFC was elected, winning 75% of the vote, 78 – 25 against John Brown of Ayr RFC.

    Grant was part of the “ultimate rugby think-tank”,  a quiet and humble man, ahead of his time in his ability to analyse a game and get the best out of his charges. “He was as hard as nails on the pitch,” recalled his fellow Scotland and British & Irish Lions representative, Andy Irvine, “but Derrick was always keen to understand why, as a player, you had done certain things. He was a deep, deep thinker on the game and was such a decent fellow.”Derrick Grant was born in Hawick on 19 April,1938.

    Ken was awarded a retrospective Scotland cap in February after a lifetime of service to the game. “Ken was a big man, with an out-going personality.
