Are PRESIDENT the new (or new-new) Sleep Token? Well, yes and no. They’re mysterious and masked, of course, with a hell of a crossover fanbase already – many Download-goers crammed at the front of the festival’s Dogtooth Stage are sporting the merch of last night’s headliners. But, as this first-ever live appearance – or inaugural presidential rally, as they call it – confirms, the band are very much their own proposition. More to the point, they’re already ace.

Many of you will already know David Pearson, who has spent the last 40 or more years enjoying the rare book world, with 35 years working in various major research libraries in the UK. He started his career in Durham, and went on to the British Library, the National Art Library at the V&A, the Wellcome Library and Senate House.

'I came into bookselling through a route taken by many specialist dealers, approaching from knowledge of my subject rather than experience of the trade. In my youth I wanted to be an urban designer, and studied town planning at university. I was doing academic research when I met Peter Inch. We were both very interested in books and wanted to find something to do in common. In the early 1980s we set up Inch's Books and traded from offices in York.
