    The fault lines that emerged after No Other Land won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature were fairly predictable. The film chronicles the attempted eviction of a collection of Palestinian villages known as Masafer Yatta through the eyes of two friends—Basel Adra, a Palestinian, and Yuval Abraham, a Jewish Israeli. Controversy has surrounded the film, since, despite international acclaim, it has failed to find a U.S. distributor.

    In 2007, Laziza Dalil helped found the Mimouna Club on her university campus in Morocco, with the intention to expose Muslim students to Moroccan Jewish heritage. (According to the Mimouna Association, “mimouna” is a traditional Jewish Moroccan celebration at the end of Passover, whereby Jewish families invite Muslim neighbors to join their festivities.) Since then, the club has expanded into a national association to educate Moroccan youth.

    A few years back a prominent writer and Israel advocate visited the Moment office. While here she railed against the then-newish organizations that were taking Jewish young adults to places in the West Bank with the goal of teaching them about what life is like for Palestinians under Israeli rule. She felt that it was handing ammunition to delegitimize Israel to its enemies. I wasn’t surprised.

    I was WhatsApping with a friend in Israel earlier this week and we were talking about the popularity of the Rachel Edri story. In case you aren’t familiar with it, when five terrorists entered her home in the southern town of Ofakim on October 7, Rachel offered them coffee and cookies and kept feeding them for the 17 hours it took before she and her husband were rescued.
