Katie Konold, teacher and former girls’ basketball coach, accepted the new athletic director position for the 2023-24 school year. Konold is originally from Wyoming; however, she moved around a lot as a child. She lived in Montana at one point, as well. She grew up as a country girl on a ranch. After high school, she got the opportunity to play basketball at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. After college, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she stayed for a while.

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, one in three high school students reported experiencing persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness. By 2019, the American Academy of Pediatrics had listed suicide as the second leading cause of death among youth aged 10 to 24. When the pandemic forced us to isolate, these feelings of anxiety and depression got even worse.
