On May 23, nearly 30 businesses, agencies, and organizations set up shop in the gym at Carson Valley Middle School, offering hands-on displays, job insights, and face-to-face advice for curious middle schoolers.

The message as 331 students tossed their caps in the air during the 2025 Douglas High School graduation ceremony on Thursday was, “Dream big, work hard, and live up to your potential, while staying humble and remembering where you came from.”Among the graduates, 41 students received Cum Laude, 30 received Magna Cum Laude, two received Summa Cum Laude and 13 students participated in the Jumpstart program through Western Nevada College, with seven students earning an associate degree.

Articulate thinker, thoughtful and kind, noble protector, bold, determined, sharp, and humble were some of the words ASPIRE Academy Principal Gavin Ward used to describe each 2025 graduate during the commencement at the CVIC Hall on Wednesday. Besides honoring the 17 graduates on Wednesday, the families of ASPIRE students John Westly Brown and Ezra Anthony Galvez were presented with diplomas. “It was so nice of them to do this,” said Brown’s mother.

A man arrested after an April 9 midnight pursuit around the Gardnerville Ranchos admitted to eluding police officers, but denied he was in violation of probation. Jason Glen Morgan, 46, was arrested after leading deputies on a high speed chase down Highway 88, Dresslerville, the Ranchos Sandpits, through the Ranchos, and down Long Valley Road reaching speeds of 110 mph in some areas, before being stopped by a grappling device.

Whittell High School teacher Catherine Johnson said graduation is a special day, and with more than 400 students graduating in the Douglas County School District, just one special day just wasn’t enough for the classes of 2025. Commencement ceremonies will begin with ASPIRE Academy 3 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall, followed by Whittell High School at 5:30 p.m. on the Warrior football field, and Douglas 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the Tiger baseball field.
