4 DISCUSSION Systematic conservation planning software commonly applied to plan protected area networks was used to prioritize the removal of 669 in-stream anthropogenic barriers to restore salmon habitat connectivity. Expressing barrier removal as a conservation problem in this way provides a flexible framework for the optimization of different habitat values, across a range of budgetary constraints.
