Many of the world’s favorite cocktails originated in my favorite place in the world: the Caribbean. The classic is rum punch—invented back in the 17th century, reportedly in Barbados. In fact, most Caribbean cocktails are rum-based, which isn’t surprising since this is where rum was first produced by enslaved Africans working on sugar cane estates across the region. The best place to enjoy a Caribbean cocktail? In the Caribbean, of course! And preferably on the island where it was concocted.
